Kuttu Vada

Kuttu Vada – Buckwheat Patty Recipe

A great option for fasting, Kuttu Vada is a delicious gluten-free tea-time snack.

Buckwheat kernels, soaked & boiled; 1 cups

Ginger, chopped; 2 tbsp

Green chilies, chopped; 1 tbsp

Ghee; 4 tbsp

Rock Salt (Sendha Namak); to taste

Potato, peeled, boiled & mashed; 1 cup

Paneer, cut into small dices; 1/2 cup

Peanuts, crushed; 2 tbsp

Cumin powder; to taste

Fresh Coriander, chopped; to taste


  1. Soak the Buckwheat kernels in water and then boil them till cooked, then drain and cool.
  2. In a bowl, mix together boiled buckwheat kernels, ginger, green chilies, mashed potato, rock salt, crushed peanuts, cumin powder and coriander. Mix well so that everything comes together.
  3.  Add the diced paneer and mix lightly.
  4. Divide the mixture into equal portions and make small patty or cutlets and shallow fry until golden brown in ghee. Serve with your favourite chutney.
